About Nicola Jane Stratton Tyler ASWA

After completing my degree at Edinburgh University, I spent more than 20 years as a Fine Art valuer. I continue to work in a freelance capacity as an art writer and curator, but today painting is my principal focus.

Painting is my great love. I am largely inspired by the natural world around me; in particular the landscapes and seascapes of East Anglia, Scotland and North Cornwall. I am fascinated by natural forms, by the power of nature and the transience of light, both in landscape and still life. Painting largely in oil and drawing in oil pastel, my style has been described as 'Contemporary Impressionism'.

I have studied and practiced fine art for many years. I exhibit regularly at notable exhibitions and societies in London and elsewhere, including the RWA, ING Discerning Eye, SWA and the Chelsea Art Society. I have been shortlisted for several art prizes and was awarded runner up in The Circles of Art Artist of the Year 2022. I was elected an associate member of the Society of Women Artists (SWA) in 2024.

My work is held in public institutions (including the National Trust) and many private collections, nationally and internationally. I am happy to undertake commissions.
